Advantage Vs Frontline

Fleas. Just the name of these blood sucking, itch causing, hard to catch because they are so darn small, insects drives chills down our spines! This past summer, Lady Gaga, along with other K9 companions, were infested with fleas! No matter how many times we would bathe the dogs, the fleas kept on coming.

Previously we were using Frontline, but we wanted to give Advantage a try. We followed the instructions and these were the results we found.

Small Dogs, Lady Gaga (Maltese Poodle) and Hemingway (Chihuahua/Itzcuintli Mix):

We used Advantage for two months and the fleas did not go away. It was really frustrating because we used the right amount of medication and followed the instructions, and still the fleas kept biting. As the third month rolled around we decided to buy Frontline, and within 24 hours Lady Gaga and Hemingway’s flea’s were dead.

Medium/Large Dogs, Peluche (Australian Shepherd/ Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix)

Peluche’s fur was about 4 inches long and since she is part Australian Shepherd, she has two thick coats of fur covering her skin. Even though we had better results with Frontline, she still had fleas. We ended up taking her to the groomer. He suggested to brush Peluche’s hair thirty minutes a day and to continue to medicate her.

We’ve also used Advantage for our cat Shakespeare and we had the same results: The darn fleas wouldn’t leave him alone.

In our personal opinion, Frontline works very well with animals that have short or light colored fur hair. If you have a dog that has long dark or mixed colored hair, Frontline is the better product, but also keep in mind to bathe and comb your dog’s hair to make sure the fleas are going away.

If your dog has an allergic reaction to Frontline or any other flea medication, take them to the Vet right away.

We KNOW Frontline can be a bit pricy, so here are some of the best places to purchase this product and at a great price. $54.99 or more is what Frontline will cost at the vet.

1. Costco -36.99 for a 3 month supply (Any size)

2. 1800Petmeds.com: $41.27-$46.43 for small-large dogs

Also, we found a video of Dr. James Talbott who explains how to use Frontline. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wkw-sVBD7w

If you have any questions, please ask your family Vet
