Sad But True
While at the beach, Barbara O’Driscoll, tried drowning her 14-year-old terrier. Luckily a group of people stopped O'Driscoll and saved the poor pooch. The terrier is in better condition, however, there is no excuse for animal abuse. If O'Driscoll wanted to get rid of her dog, she should have turned him in to her local animal shelter.
What's even crazier is that in California our beloved pets are considered PROPERTY. What does this mean? Let's consider a hypothetical situation.
Say your beloved dog named Snoppy is being beaten by a stranger. There is a baseball bat near you. You decide to grab the baseball bat and hit the attacker. You can face criminal and civil charges for hitting that person. In California, a human's life is more valued then property. Since dogs are animals, your dog Snoopy, is property. The attacker can even sue you for punitive damages.
So what can you do? The truth is, if a person is attacking your dog, try yelling or screaming at the person. Before doing that, call 911.
