More Pet Friendly Tips

Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine ’s Day! I know it’s been a while since the last post, but we found some great tips for our darling cats and dogs.

Does your cat or kitten like to hide and you get frustrated looking for them?

According to Tracie Hotchner the author of The Cat Bible, “cats naturally seek out nooks and crannies to explore and snuggle in. The problem is that even small kittens often cannot extricate themselves from the tight places they squeeze into. Adult cats who get scared or disoriented might also wedge themselves in somewhere. Kittens who are curious will look for the smallest, most hidden spot they can to escape into, but once stuck can panic. In addition to refrigerators and washer/dryers, the other common hiding places of cats are closets, inside boxes or shoes, drawers, cabinets, suitcases, bags, laundry, sofas and bookcases.”

Confused on whether to purchase a dog harness or just stick with the neck collar?

According to Lady Gaga and Glinda’s trainer, if you have a small/medium dog, a dog harness is best. Neck collars will place stress on their neck. As for large dogs, neck collars are ideal so that you have the ability to control you large pooch during your daily walks.

Washing your feline a plus or a negative?

Depending on the length of your cat’s hair, you can take them a nice warm bath once a month. If you have a Persian cat like Benjy, then every two weeks is best because they have so much hair. Now remember cats hate water, so be patient with them. Once bath time is over, blow dry, yes blow dry their hair and give them a special treat.

Can using human shampoo harm my pet?

Yes and no. If your pet has short hair it is best to use dog/cat shampoo or baby shampoo. If you have a Persian, Chowchow or Malti-Poodle, then you can use human shampoo. If you see your pet scratching more after their bath, that’s a sign to stick with pet shampoo. I use Kirkland’s Organic shampoo on my dogs and it leaves their hair very silky. Just make sure you avoid their eye area.
